Firing patterns in the adaptive exponential integrate-and-fire model

Julia will present the paper by Naud et al (2008) 'Firing patterns in the AdEx IF model'.

In the article the authors explore the adaptive exponential integrate-and-fire model as a good tool to simulate large-scale spiking neuron networks. They show that the AdEx model generates multiple firing patterns in response to the parameter values. In order to describe the transition from one pattern to another, the phase diagrams are analysed in the article. To further classify the firing patterns, the transient response to step current is studied. The analytical solutions are given for continuous adaptation, initial bursting, regular bursting, tonic spiking and irregular spiking as a response to the constant current. It is also concluded, that the network simulations of a large systems, such as thalamocortical, require the description of different neuron types. Parameter sets for three neuron types are provided, but further work is needed to extend this to a larger number of neuron types.
